Y Fork Padding what is a Y fork or Motor Support Bracket?
These days there are available many forms of "motor support brackets" other than the standard ones that your outboard is fitted with. So we at Outboard Covers New Zealand have complimented our full covers with an option for us to "double the thickness" of our material so to make our full cover last longer when using one of these Y forks or trailer savers. We would always recommend the extra padding for the small cost if you are using the above attachments. See examples of the type of motor support brackets available below:
 |
What you need to do is outlined below to ensure your cover will last many years using a Y fork or trailer saver: |
-
You need to pad the trailer saver or Y fork (marked in black below) with either foam or rubber padding as outlined in RED on the diagram below. This will help prevent rubbing on our covers.
-
By also adding this padding it will ensure that the zip pictured in the diagram below in GREEN is not crushed when inserting the motor leg into the Y fork or trailer saver.
-
Once the leg is placed into the travelling position please ensure that you also use a tie down to stop the motor leg jumping or moving in the Y fork or trailer saver. Movement causes rubbing and this will wear through the cover over time.
-
We will add another layer of material usually between the prop and just above the cavertation plate.
